Pitcher's Dual Goes to Andover

Andover’s Glenn Stowell ’09 and Exeter’s Chris O’Hare squared off for the second time this season in the opening round of the Central New England Prep School Baseball League Tournament at Holy Cross, and both pitchers were once again in top form. Stowell struck out 9 Exeter batters and scattered 4 hits, while O’Hare struck out 10 and allowed just 2 hits in the game. As it turned out, none of the hits figured in the scoring as both pitchers, with support from their defenses were able to snuff out any hint of a rally. However, in the second inning Jack Doyle ’10 drew a one-out walk and stole second base. He advanced to third on a passed ball, and then raced home when Mike Siraco ’09 grounded to second. After 2 Exeter hits and his only walk of the game, Stowell faced a bases loaded situation in the third inning but was able to induce a ground out to shortstop Zach Burdeau ’09 to end the inning. A base hit in the fourth was the last runner Stowell allowed, as he retired the last 11 men he faced to make the 1-0 lead stand up. With the victory, PA advanced to the tournament finals to face Deerfield, 4-2 winners over Worcester Academy in their opening round game.
