David FoxVarsity Coach:  David Fox

David Fox joined the English Department of Phillips Academy in 2004.  A former nationally ranked age-group swimmer and state-record holder, he captained both the swimming and water polo teams at Bates College, where he was All-New England in both sports and earned a berth in the 1993 NCAA Division III Swimming Championships in the 200 Butterfly.  Upon graduation, he returned to Oklahoma to teach and coach. 

From 1993-1996, Fox coached the Tulsa Water Polo Club.  Two members of the club were named to the U.S. Junior National Women’s Water Polo Team; one went on to the U.S. National Team and was named National Collegiate Player of the Year.  During those years, Fox also coached the Trojan Aquatic Club and worked with twenty-one Junior National qualifiers, one Junior National Champion, six Senior National qualifiers, and one Olympic Trials qualifier. 

From 1998-2003, Fox was the assistant coach for the Harvard University Men’s Varsity Water Polo Team.  In addition to placing players on All-East and All-American teams, the Harvard team placed third at the Eastern Championships in 2001.  Fox also assisted with the Northeast Zone National Team for five seasons; in this capacity, he coached the best players in the East against the best players in the nation.

In addition to coaching and teaching, Fox lives in Draper Cottage with seven ninth-grade boys and two prefects, officiates with USA Water Polo and the Collegiate Water Polo Association, and spends his summers traveling.  He earned a master’s degree from Harvard in 1999.

Scott HoenigJunior Varsity Coach:  Scott Hoenig

A four-year varsity swimmer at Bowdoin College, Scott Hoenig arrived at Phillips Academy in 1998.  Since then he has served as head coach of both the water polo and swimming programs.  He currently coaches the water polo and Ultimate teams.  Coach Hoenig teaches in the mathematics department and lives in a 9th grade boys’ dormitory.  He holds a Master’s Degree in mathematics from BU.
