Cross Country G
The girls' cross country program at Phillips Academy offers opportunities for runners of varied abilities. Our varsity and junior varsity teams are strong and continue to grow in numbers and in depth. Our varsity team has won the New England Prep School Division I Championships in 1992, 1993, 1995, 1999, 2005 2006, 2007 and 2008 and we have been in the top three since 1991. Our junior varsity team has won the JV Championships in eight of the past ten years. In addition to varsity and junior varsity runners, we have a training group.
The training group "brings along" young or inexperienced runners and also provides good transition workouts for injured runners as they return from rehabilitation.
All members of the training group compete in mid-to-late season races. Members of the training group have the opportunity to join the junior varsity as soon as they are ready. We welcome all runners who have a genuine desire to improve in training and in competition.
The town of Andover provides us with superb places to run. There are numerous trail runs, as well as residential neighborhoods, with the variety of terrain (including great hills!) to prepare us for the most challenging courses. We train seriously, and we have a lot of fun. Throughout the season, as each individual works toward her goals, the team comes together to work toward a common goal, providing a network of friendship and support for all team members.
