Cross Country - Boys
The cross country program includes a varsity, a JV, and a training program, closely integrated so runners can improve and move up through the ranks when appropriate. Each year the program has over 30 runners and everyone has an opportunity to race competitively.
The home course is a relative hilly 5K one with a school and course record of 15:40. The times for varsity runners are generally distributed between the low 16:00s to the high 17:00s at the end of the season; the fastest JV runners are now in the high 1700s to low 18:00s, but the field includes runners whose times are much higher.
Most of our races, however, are run on other courses; and we currently take teams to three large invitational meets that include the best high school teams from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. Our runners fare well in these meets and in our dual meets with other prep schools.
The program is structured to nurture individual growth, teamwork, camaraderie and a love for running and fitness. Making a lifetime runner is a secondary goal, and even if our athletes do not compete in college, they are likely to continue running for fitness. Each year two or three runners go on to compete in college, often in the Ivy League, but in other Division One and Division Three programs as well.
