Hi, my name is Michael and I am a 4-year senior here at Phillips Academy. I am also a day student from Andover. I live only ten minutes from campus so it’s easy for me to take advantage of all the great things that Andover has to offer.
This fall I’m taking 5 courses all of which are really fun and interesting. In the morning I’ve got Physics with Dr. Watt and AP Calculus. Calc is hard but I enjoy the new material. After lunch I have my senior English elective, which is Playwriting taught by Kevin Heelan, who believe it or not is a published playwright. Following that is advanced theatre performance. The goal of the course is to produce the fall term production of Neil Simon’s The Odd Couple. My last class is fifth year German.
One of the great things about Andover is that there are so many ways to get involved. One of the big things that I do is theatre. I am one of the DramaLab producers. The DramaLab is a student theatre organization that is unique to Andover. We present 2-3 15minute one-act shows every Friday at 6:30pm in the theatre classroom. All of our shows are directed, acted, and teched by students. There is minimal faculty involvement. My job as producer is to organize the whole program with the two other producers. We have to recruit directors, hold auditions, supervise rehearsals and just be there to make sure our student directors are doing ok. The DramaLab is a great way to get involved in theatre because we need students to help out with all parts of the process.
I also enjoy giving tours in the admission office once a week and over the summers. Perhaps I’ll run into you!!
