The Cold War may be over, but Russia’s energy-driven economy and its justifiably famous culture continue to factor into the world scene in important ways. Politically and economically, Russian is a lingua franca in one of the most complex and dynamic (if troubled) regions of the world. Whatever the political climate, Russian culture and literature are staples of our program, both through readings and films. Innovative uses of technology in our teaching allow our students to learn in ways that suit them best, and have led to a long history of successes for our students. At the national level, our program was instrumental in the development of a summer program for high school students of Russian.
