The language of the economic engine of the EU, German is the national language of Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. And because of its importance in Central Europe, German is also widely spoken in neighboring countries. Beyond this important practical reason, learning German will allow you to enter a set of cultures with important pasts and exciting futures. If you can imagine yourself studying in Berlin, Vienna, or Zurich; traveling for business or pleasure to the heartland of the EU; or perhaps exploring family history, learning German can be an important key to this world. And of course there is a lot of fun to be had, too--hiking in the Swiss Alps, visiting Munich’s Oktoberfest, or skiing in Austria--to name just a few options.
