Department: Physics
PA Start Date: 2005

Degrees

PhD in Theoretical Physics, University of Jyvaskyla, Finland

Interests
My training is in theoretical physics. Before PA I was doing research at MIT's Earth Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences Department. I was studying multicomponent/multiphase fluid flow using computational models. For my PhD thesis I worked on the elastic properties of randomly structured materials. I love skiing (both cross country and downhill), rugby, orienteering, swimming, cycling, and chess. I coach cross-country skiing and Search & Rescue at PA, referee rugby in New England, and love to teach people how to read maps or use a compass. I like to do long-distance skiing and orienteering events, and try to do at least one (reasonable distance) triathlon a year.
