I have served at Andover as Director of the Brace Center for Gender Studies, Chair of the History Department, and Associate Dean of Community and Multicultural Development. I have been head or co-head of History 200 and History 300 and have been actively involved in developing courses and curricula in History. As a historian, I have written a pioneering book in gender history, American Manhood: Transitions in Masculinity from the Revolution to the Modern Era, have written many newspaper and scholarly articles on men and masculinity, have served on several editorial boards, and am now working on a book about masculinity and the rise of conservatism in the U.S. I teach a senior elective on gender that is related to my work as a historian. I am the proud father of two Phillips Academy graduates!
