Victoria Wilmarth '09 Awarded Robertson Scholarship to Duke University

One of 30 students nationwide accepted to prestigious program

June 03, 2009 — Phillips Academy senior Victoria “Tori” Wilmarth has been named a Class of 2013 Robertson Scholar. The award provides her with a full scholarship to Duke University beginning this fall. Each year the Robertson Scholarship Program awards up to 36 high school seniors who demonstrate strong leadership skills full scholarships to attend either Duke University or the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Wilmarth, an active member of PA’s service-learning and community service programs, intends to study public policy and global health at Duke. As a general coordinator of PA’s Community Service Program, Wilmarth helped organize and lead more than 600 volunteers and 24 student coordinators in dozens of community service projects. In 2008, Wilmarth participated in the academy’s service-learning program in Mumbai, India, known as Niswarth. Upon completing the program, Wilmarth was named one of the academy’s Community and Multicultural Development (CAMD) scholars and continued her study of diversity issues.

Wilmarth is one of only 15 students to be chosen for the Duke scholarship from a pool of approximately 23,000 high school seniors; more than 24,000 students competed for 15 Robertson scholarships to UNC. The elite group of 30, who hail from 13 states and three foreign countries, will take courses at both universities and reside for one semester at the other campus. The Robertson program was established in 2000 to promote a greater collaboration between the two universities.
