May 26, 2009 —Andover’s Richard "Trey" Meyer ’09 became the second tennis player ever to be a two-time New England champion at the New England Prep School Invitational Tennis Tournament (NEPSITT)  held on May 23 at Choate Rosemary Hall. Meyer defeated Justin Klee of The Williams School, 8-0; Sam King of the Brunswick School, 10-2; Robert Lightbourn of The Hotchkiss School, 6-2, 6-4; and Tabor Academy's Adam Vaz, 6-0, 6-3 to win the title. Meyer won his first New England championship in 2007, but did not compete in 2008. Tom Reifenheiser '90 was the first player to accomplish the feat.

Meyer, who came to Phillips Academy from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, was undefeated in 16 Andover team matches for the season, and is 48-8 over his four-year varsity career. At the final team dinner Coach Greg Wilkin said that Meyer was “the best player and best leader I’ve seen in my 29 years of association with the tennis program.”

In addition to his recent achievement on the court, Meyer won PA's 2009 Banta Award for leadership, character and sportsmanship on the tennis court, as well as the Sullivan Award  for most improved scholarship in the senior class.  He will attend Williams College in the fall
