Service for Meredith E. "Dickie" Thiras to be Held June

May 29, 2007 — A memorial service honoring long-time Phillips Academy receptionist Meredith “Dickie” Thiras will be held Friday, June 8 at 3 p.m. in Cochran Chapel on the Academy campus. The Rev. Michael Ebner, Protestant chaplain and director of alumni affairs, will officiate at a service that will include tributes from alumni, faculty and family. A reception will follow in the Underwood room. The service is open to the public.

Dickie Thiras died on February 18 at the age of 90.  She was born in Andover on October 20, 1916, and was a life-long resident. For 54 years, beginning in 1946, she was officially the receptionist and switchboard operator at Phillips Academy, but more significantly she was a beloved mentor, friend and mother-confessor to generations of Andover students
